A fantastic turnout on Castle Loch today (Saturday 13th October) with 23 Lasers competing in the final meeting of the Laser Open Series. Visitors came from far and wide – Manchester, County Durham, The Lakes, Lancashire and Forfar, as well as some competitors from our neighbours at St Marys’ Loch.
It was fantastic to see so many Lasers out there with some great competition going on in what can only be described as “differing” conditions… after a great blast of wind just before the first gun of the day, the wind almost disappeared leaving it upto the talent of the sailors to get around the course for the first race.
After lunch, out they headed again, the wind seemingly a little better than before lunch, but still light! 2 races were then had, back to back, to complete the days’ racing.
Winner of the day was Stuart Belfield from Leigh & Lowton sailing club in Greater Manchester, 2nd Neil Garrison from Bassenthwaite and 3rd was Richard Startup from Derwent Reservoir.
First Radial was won by Sam Jones from Coniston and first lady was Elaine Ross from Annandale/SYC.
The day was a terrific success and thanks must go to Tony Bamforth for organising the day, David Gemmell and Carol Beattie for OOD, Steph Bamforth for Lunch, Dave Richardson for Bacon sarnies and Safety cover (a wild combination Dave!!), Lucy Allan for assisting with Safety cover and results, and Jamie Baulcombe for photos (which will be on facebook page very soon)
… and thanks to everyone from other clubs who came to visit us – we had great fun and hope to do it again next year!!!
