The GP14 & National 12 Open
Annandale on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th April 2013
7 GP14’s & 9 National 12’s joined us for a weekend Open Event this weekend. On Saturday a fairly light wind greeted us and 3 back to back races from 12.35 were followed by a fantastic evening meal provided by Steph & her team in the kitchen and a few drinks in the clubhouse.
Some hardy (or mad???) sailors camped overnight (wearing lots of layers from what we hear) ready for more fun on Sunday.
Unfortunately the wind Gods were unkind and on Sunday racing was postponed until after lunch. After lunch was little better and eventually the Race Officer made the difficult decision to abandon racing for the day. It was unfortunate but that’s the way it can be sometimes!
So after only 3 races, it was great to see our own Dave Richardson & Neill Smith taking the 1st place in the GP14 fleet, with Derwents Ann Penny & Duncan Greenhalgh in 2nd and 3rd place going to Arthur Logan & Iain Hardy from Castle Semple.
In the National 12 camp, the overall 1st Place went to Steve Sallis & Joanne Sallis from Hykeham sailing club, with Christian Day & Sophie Richards from Leigh & Lowton taking 2nd Place, Nick Copsey & Tanya Copsey from Hunts Sailing Club took 3rd place.
Rep John Hugo also awarded wine to the vintage fleet for 1st Ed Willet & Sarah Smith from Loch Tummel, Brian Herring & Ros Stevenson from Winsford Flash took 2nd & 3rd was Angus Beyts (Forfar) & his crew Boo Coles (Annandale)
Sophie Richards was awarded the Ladybird book of sailing for her amazing ability to sleep in a tent dressed like the Michelin Man!
Finally special recogintion was given to the three youngest sailors of the weekend Tom Storey, Toby Simpson & Anna Simpson who received Annandale caps from commodore Tony Bamforth.
A great weekend all round (apart from the lack of wind on Sunday) and we look forward to seeing you all again next year! Many thanks again to all the volunteers that gave up their time to help out.
